Recycling
Get community service by recycling on Tuesdays and Thursdays!
Bottles (and all plastics 1-7)Make sure they are COMPLETELY EMPTY. Even a little bit of liquid can ruin a whole batch of recycling. If you're unsure if a certain plastic object is recyclable, look for the little triangle and number. If it's 1-7, it can be recycled.
PaperIf paper has no color or hasn't been bleached, you can actually compost it (for example newspaper or brown paper bags). Otherwise, paper should always be recycled. This includes mail, magazines, old books, and regular sheets of paper.
CansIt's not just soda cans though, it's all tin, aluminum or steel cans. Once again, make sure it is COMPLETELY EMPTY before you recycle it.
CardboardAnything made out of cardboard can be recycled, not just cardboard boxes. This includes cereal boxes, or any other packaging made of cardboard.
Styrofoam
If you have the option to not use styrofoam, don't. It's not recyclable or compostable and takes forever to biodegrade. This includes styrofoam boxes, plates, bowls, cups, or packaging.
Pizza Boxes
While pizza boxes are made of cardboard, they are not recyable because of all the grease that gets on them. Luckily at Trinity, they are compostable so they should be put in the compost bin.
Plastic Bags
This includes plastic shopping bags and ziploc bags. You also can't recycle plastic food and candy wrappers.
Food and Food Soiled Containers
Food can absolutely not be recycled. Containers that may be recyclable but have food on them aren't recyclable. However, at Trinity, we can compost all food and compostable containers that have food.
Plastic Utensils, Lids, and Straws
Any plastic utensil can't be recycled, as well as cup lids and straws. If they aren't necessary, you should avoid using all these products. Once again, check the number on a plastic if you're unsure. Anything not numbered 1-7 isn't recyclable.

If you need community service hours, recycling and composting at Trinity is a perfect way to get some. The best part is, you don't even have to leave school or plan ahead. Just show up to the outdoor shed during Discovery on Tuesday or Thursday and tell Mr. Stratton or a SEA club officer you want to recycle or compost. We'll show you how! It's as easy as that! |
